45-corridor bus speed-up (20% commute reduction)

Wed Jul 8 2026: The '45-corridor' pledge is now funded and formally rebranded as the 50-priority-corridor 'Next Stop: Fast Buses, Better Service' plan with Hochul + DOT + MTA. $254M expense + $628M capital = $882M over 5 fiscal years. 5 BRT-style 'rapid bus corridors' first (Tremont/Cross Bronx, Northern Blvd, Flatbush, Utica, Kensington-JFK). All-door boarding citywide by 2027. MTA's $68B 2025-2029 capital program will buy ~2,500 new buses. Camera + officer bus-lane enforcement. Streetsblog: 'the multi-pronged effort was the big story on Wednesday.' STATUS: still IN-PROGRESS — corridor build-outs and 20% speed target are execution risk (Streetsblog: 'time will tell' whether he becomes the 'Bus Mayor'). Flip to KEPT contingent on measurable corridor speed gains and first BRT route commissioning.
