Q1 2026: hate crimes UP 11.7% citywide, with 55% being anti-Jewish. Buffer-zone-veto split decision (schools 30-19 vetoed, worship 44-5 became law). FY27 Exec Budget invests $26M in Office for the Prevention of Hate Crimes — a 9× increase from the $3M annual baseline. Phylisa Wisdom named exec director. Sept 29, 2026: Mamdani released the city's first citywide plan to combat antisemitism — 33-page report, $6.4M for JCRC/community-based hate-crime prevention and survivor assistance, $1M for synagogue and house-of-worship security, $2M to complete Queens Holocaust Memorial, $2.5M for the Center for New Jewish Culture in Central Brooklyn, expanded Museum of Jewish Heritage field trips, LinkNYC campaigns. Plan does NOT adopt a single antisemitism definition (Mamdani revoked Adams's IHRA EO; strategy references IHRA, Jerusalem Declaration, and Nexus). ADL called the plan "unacceptable" for missing a formal definition and boycott/procurement guardrails; Bend the Arc and Comptroller Lander backed the multi-definition approach. Status stays BROKEN pending Q3/Q4 hate-crime data trending, but new investment is the largest hate-crimes response of the administration to date. Oct 7, 2026 update: Honan Strategy Group poll of 503 NYC Jews (MOE 4.3) — 79% say antisemitism UP since Oct 7/2023, 86% say Jewish/non-Jewish relations have worsened, 65% disapprove of Mamdani's antisemitism handling (47% strongly). Perception trend diverges from the FY27 investment surge.
