Velázquez Endorses Carl Wilson in Council District 3 Race, Deepening Rift with Mamdani Ahead of Tuesday Vote

Outgoing US Rep Nydia Velázquez endorsed Carl Wilson, a former aide to Erik Bottcher, in the Manhattan Council District 3 special election held tomorrow, April 28. Mamdani endorsed Lindsey Boylan (the first Cuomo accuser) on April 17. Velázquez also recently broke with Mamdani on the Queens Assembly succession after he backed Claire Valdez and she countered with Antonio Reynoso. Council Speaker Julie Menin is also backing Wilson. The D3 race — covering Chelsea, Hudson Yards, Hell's Kitchen, the West Village, and the Stonewall Inn — is the first electoral test of how much weight the Mamdani coalition carries in Manhattan against an established progressive network.
