NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced Thursday — flanked by Mamdani at NYPD HQ — that security for Sunday's Israel Day on Fifth parade (11:30am-4pm, Fifth Ave 62nd-74th) will be "the most extensive" the department has ever assembled, citing a heightened threat environment. Mamdani confirmed Friday he will not march, becoming the first NYC mayor in 60+ years to skip the parade; he said he made his views on the Israeli government "abundantly clear" on the campaign trail and that his presence "should not determine whether or not a New Yorker is safe or secure." Hochul, the Knesset delegation, and Tisch as grand marshal will attend.
