Mayor Mamdani unveiled NYCHA's 2026 Sustainability Agenda at Woodside Houses in Queens on Earth Day, Wednesday April 22. The five-year plan includes 150 EV charging stations at 150 NYCHA parking lots, 10,000 induction stoves replacing gas stoves, electric heat pumps and cooling systems for 20,000 apartments, efficient lighting and water fixtures at 45,000 units, modernized waste infrastructure at 144 properties, and a goal to hire approximately 1,300 NYCHA residents for green-collar jobs. Announcement comes while NYCHA continues to carry a $78B capital need backlog.
