Mamdani Honors 600 at USS Intrepid Memorial Day Ceremony — First Mayoral Address Cites 135K NYC Veterans Facing "Food Insecurity, Homelessness, Social Isolation"

Mayor Mamdani delivered his first Memorial Day address Monday May 25 aboard the USS Intrepid to ~600 veterans, active-duty service members, Gold Star families, and civic leaders. Said America's freedoms "were won by sacrifice, and it must be cherished," and committed to NYC's 135,000+ veterans: "In the wealthiest city in the wealthiest nation in the history of the world, we cannot simply accept that so many veterans must live with food insecurity, homelessness, and social isolation." Ceremony featured five ceremonial wreaths laid into the Hudson River. WBLS radio appearance same weekend hinted at a Memorial Day bike ride.
