Mamdani Calls Cop's 547 Speeding Tickets "Unacceptable" but Stops Short of Discipline

Mayor Mamdani on Friday, April 24 called Staten Island NYPD Officer James Giovansanti's 547 speed- and red-light-camera tickets "unacceptable" but declined to commit to specific discipline, telling Streetsblog: "That behavior is unacceptable… we are going to continue to have a conversation internally about what it looks like to follow through on that." Streetsblog reset its "Mamdani-O-Meter" tracking his street-safety promises. The administration's DOT and Mamdani publicly back the state Stop Super Speeders Act (mandatory speed limiters on chronic violators), which Senate has passed but Assembly Speaker Heastie has resisted including in the budget.
