Mamdani Announces Bergen-Dean Bike Boulevards: 10-Mile Brooklyn Redesign on National Bike to School Day

On National Bike and Roll to School Day, Mayor Mamdani and DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn rode the Bergen Bike Bus to announce a major DOT redesign of the Bergen and Dean Street corridors from Court Street (Cobble Hill) to East New York Avenue (Ocean Hill) — Bergen westbound, Dean eastbound, ~10 miles total. The plan converts existing painted lanes into bike boulevards: protected bike lanes, sidewalk extensions, medians, traffic-calming, and pedestrian improvements. Design proposal due later this year; first-phase installation targeted for 2027.
