Mayor Mamdani and OMB Director Jessica Menin confirmed Tuesday morning they will not release the NYC executive budget on the Charter-mandated May 1 deadline. The new target is at least May 12, with the administration citing the still-unsettled state budget — now four weeks late — and the inability to model major state-funded line items including Medicaid, education aid, and the FY26 PTET reform the city is asking for. Hochul fired back through her spokesperson: "Delays are a choice." Comptroller Levine warned the slip raises the risk of a Council overrun into June and may complicate cash-flow planning. The May 12 target is the latest modern-era exec budget release for NYC.
