Mayor Mamdani and NYC Emergency Management activated the citywide Heat Emergency Plan ahead of unseasonably hot conditions starting Tue May 19. NWS heat advisory 11AM Tue through 8PM Wed May 20; heat index forecast up to 96°F in parts of the city. Plan triggers DHS around-the-clock outreach for unsheltered New Yorkers, water/essentials distribution, encouragement to access cooling centers and shelter.
