NYPD officers arrested Council Member Chi Ossé (D-Bed-Stuy) and three others on Wednesday, April 22 during a protest of Carmella Charrington's eviction from her family brownstone. Video shows officers throwing Ossé face-first to the pavement; he was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and disorderly conduct. Ossé and supporters allege the 2024 sale of Charrington's home was deed theft — a predatory practice using forgery or fraud to transfer property. AG Letitia James said she was "deeply disturbed" by the video. Mayor Mamdani called the footage "incredibly concerning" and said he reached out to Commissioner Tisch. Second NYPD friction point in two weeks following the April 14 narcotics-team disbandment.
