15-Year-Old Shot on Queens A Train; Mamdani Calls Subway Violence 'Unacceptable'
A 15-year-old boy was shot in the neck and back aboard a Manhattan-bound A train near 80th Street station in Ozone Park, Queens just after 6 p.m. on Monday April 27. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive. Three teenage suspects fled the scene; police describe one as having braids and wearing all black with gray sneakers. No arrests have been made. Mayor Mamdani responded Tuesday April 28 calling the shooting "an unacceptable incident," saying "Violence like this has no place on our subway system, and my administration is committed to doing everything in our power to make every New Yorker — especially children — safe on their daily commutes." The shooting comes less than two weeks after 15-year-old Jaden Pierre was killed in Roy Wilkins Park, putting fresh pressure on the administration's public-safety strategy.
