Judicial Advisory Committee — No Jewish Members Among 18
A coalition of four Jewish bar associations (Brandeis Association of Queens, NY County Jewish Lawyers Guild, Brooklyn Brandeis Society, Bronx County Jewish Bar Association) issued a joint letter Jul 28 saying they were "deeply disappointed" that Mamdani's new 18-member Mayor's Advisory Committee on the Judiciary (MACJ) does not include a single Jewish member. Jews are roughly 10% of NYC and, by common estimates, one-third to one-half of NYC attorneys. Mamdani (Wed Jul 29) said religion "played no part" in selection; spokesman Joe Calvello pointed to a dozen judges already appointed "from a range of backgrounds, including Jewish judges." Story escalates against the Netanyahu / UWS-stabbing / 9/11-petition backdrop.
